You can help your child understand animals and their place in the world through our many zoo classes and educational programs. All our classes require preregistration. If you do not attend a paid zoo class, we will consider it a donation to the zoo.

This camp is designed for ages 9-14. This two day workshop allows young people to spend time with a Chahinkapa Zoo keeper and learn the responsibilities and tasks of a zoo keeper. Students will get a behind-the-scenes tour of exhibits and learn about habitat planning, preparing zoo diets, explore zoo medicine fields, and design their own zoo. The second day includes a short graduation ceremony where family is invited to share in the program. This workshop is a pre-requisite to becoming a Junior Zoo Keeper Volunteer.

This second camp puts you in the middle of animal enrichment. How does zoo staff keep the animals active and healthy in their habitat? Help make enrichment treats. Zoo medicine will be explored in more depth and students may learn blow dart procedures. A short graduation ceremony will be held on the second day where family is invited to view the results of your hard work.

After graduating from Junior Zookeeping I or Junior Zookeeping II, you may volunteer at the zoo for two hours each week. You will receive a club card and will be invited to the Zoo Friend picnic in September. There is a $35 supervisor fee. Times are arranged with a zookeeper.

Let’s visit the animals at the zoo that are native to Africa. Get up close to them and learn about their plight in the wild. Enjoy some Cheetos and juice. (Note: Frito-Lay Cheetos snacks are made with sustainable palm oil, making them rain forest friendly.)

ChalkFest is in town! Let’s decorate some animal habitats with chalk art as enrichment for the animals and fun for you.

Let’s have some end-of-the-summer fun! We’ll have activities for all skill levels and great teamwork will win the day!

Learn about what enrichment is and how we use it at the zoo! During this class we
will make snuffle mats that you can bring home for your pet or make one for an animal at the zoo!
Snacks and beverages will also be provided. At the end of the class you will be able to see a snuffle mat used by one of our education animals!

Learn about what enrichment is and how we use it at the zoo! During this class we
will use firehose to make items that can be used for almost all of our animals here at the zoo.
