Learn about eight species of bears worldwide. You will go into our grizzly bear habitat to prepare it for Coco and Copper before they go on exhibit for the day. Make food treats and other enrichment. Watch as they hunt for your snacks.

Yes! We are going back to the pond in this favorite zoo adventure. See what makes a pond come to life. Explore gently with nets identify your living things under a microscope.
Junior Zoo Keeping I (Choose one session)
June 8th and 9th 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

This camp is designed for ages 9-14. This two day workshop allows young people to spend time with a Chahinkapa Zoo Keeper and learn the responsibilities and tasks of a zoo keeper. Children get a behind-the-scenes tour of exhibits and learn about habitat planning, prepares zoo diets, explore the zoo medicine field and design their own zoo! The second day includes a short graduation ceremony where family is invited to share in the program. This is a pre-requisite to be a Junior Zoo Keeper Volunteer. (See Jr. Zoo Keeping Club).
Junior Zoo Keeping II
July 13th and 14th 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Fee $35 (includes t-shirt)
This second camp puts you in the middle of animal enrichment. How does zoo staff keep the animals active and healthy in their habitat? Help the monkeys forage for fruit and prepare frozen fish pops for the bears. Zoo medicine is discussed more as students learn blow dart procedures. A short graduation ceremony is held on the second day where family is invited to view the results of your hard work.
Junior Zoo Keeping Club
After graduation from Jr. Zoo Keeping I or II you may volunteer at the zoo for two hours each week. You will receive a club card and an invitation to the Zoo Friend Picnic in September. There is a $30 supervisor fee. Times are arranged with a zookeeper.
Tracking - WEDNESDAY, June 30th 1:30-3:30 p.m.
(Note: this workshop will be held together with 5 – 8 age group)
Fee: $18 member/$20 non-member
Learn to identify different animal tracks and how tracking is used for different leisure sports. Make a plaster cast to take home.
Wild Tile Art! - THURSDAY, JULY 1 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Taught by Tammy Seebach
Draw an animal picture on ceramic tile using alcohol inks for special effects!
Out of Africa – TUESDAY JULY 6 1 PM – 3 PM
This tour takes you to the zoo savannah to see white rhinos, zebras, and cheetahs! You won’t want to miss this opportunity for an up close and personal view! Enjoy some Cheetos and Juice. Note Frito Lay Cheetos snacks are made with sustainable palm oil making them rain forest friendly.
Junior Zoologists – Taught by Kathy Diekman
WEDNESDAY JULY 21 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Fee: $18 member/$20 non-member (includes binoculars and field guide)
This workshop is intended for those interested in biology or zoology field. Students will explore the outdoors with the Zoo Director identifying plant life, animals, tracking, and bird watching. They will record their findings in a biology field notebook and discuss jobs in the science world.
Team H.O.C.Z. Helping Out Chahinkapa Zoo

Fee: $5 each time for supplies
Help make enrichment items to assist the zoo keepers in their work with the animals.
Anyone 12 and older wishing to be a member of Chahinkapa Zoo’s Teen Conservation Club please come to the first meeting on Thursday, June 9 at 3 PM. We will discuss projects the club can do to help local conservation efforts. Two adventure trips may be planned. No fees necessary at this time.
OTHER ZOO ACTIVITIES FOR ALL AGES:
Niko’s Splash Dance – Selected Thursdays at 10:30 AM throughout the summer. Niko, the spider monkey takes a shower in his habitat. Not a modest monkey, but a clean one!
Campfire Talks - Selected Mondays at 7 PM gather around our campfire at the Chahinkapa Zoo Campground. Visit about animals, nature, or other topics of the outdoors!
